Process & safety

Assess first, establish the limits, then proceed.

This page outlines the basic process. It does not replace technical diagnosis or a case-specific legal assessment.

  1. 01Prepare the enquiry

Vehicle details, symptoms, the objective and any codes or photos are collected first.

  2. 02Assess feasibility

MG AutoTech assesses whether diagnostics, coding, control-unit service or software work is appropriate for the case.

  3. 03Discuss limitations openly

Safety- and emissions-related systems are not downplayed or marketed with blanket claims.

  4. 04Plan the restoration path

Where technically possible, original data, backups and restoration are considered before implementation.

ORI file & backup

Document the starting point before making a change.

“ORI” means the original file read from a control unit or its documented standard software state. What can actually be backed up depends on the ECU, software version, access method and readability.

What a backup can do

A traceable starting point supports comparison, restoration and fault-finding. Before work begins, we establish whether an original file, partial readout or more complete data set is technically available.

What it does not promise

“Backup available” does not automatically mean that every control unit can be fully restored in any condition, or that a hardware fault can be repaired. The restoration path is assessed for the specific case.

Important

No blanket repair or road-approval promises.

Vehicle condition, intended use, the legal position and available data determine what is technically appropriate and responsible. Unclear cases are identified as such.
