Chip tuning & Stage 1
Software optimisation based on the engine, transmission, software version and vehicle condition.
Ford · Stuttgart · Ford Performance (ST / RS)
Ford uses different control-unit suppliers depending on model series and year of manufacture. Every enquiry therefore starts with identification: which unit is fitted, which software version is installed and how can it be read?
Work on Ford is part of the documented service scope. The scope is still checked for each vehicle.
Service scope
Every service starts in the same order: check the vehicle details, assess the fault, establish technical feasibility, then carry out the work. ECU and TCU access, unlocking, diagnostics and software work are considered separately because they have different requirements.
Software optimisation based on the engine, transmission, software version and vehicle condition.
Check filter loading, differential pressure, regeneration history and sensors.
Identification, readout, bench/boot access, backup and programming.
Transfer data from a faulty control unit to a replacement, including adaptation.
Check fault memory, live data and the surrounding systems before making any decision.
Vehicle assessment
These three cases can look similar from the outside but differ greatly in technical terms. The assessment determines the work involved, the scope and what is realistically worthwhile.
Fiesta, Focus, Kuga, Mondeo and Transit in their original specification. Diesel enquiries mainly concern exhaust aftertreatment and fault memory.
Factory sports variants with dedicated software. They are assessed separately because their clutch, cooling and transmission already operate closer to their limits.
Ford vehicles often arrive with older software of unknown origin. The software is read and documented first; decisions follow afterwards.
Systems
The fitted system determines the approach, not the badge. These are the units that feature most often in Ford enquiries.
Fitted to many TDCi engines. The specific version and software determine access and scope for work.
Used across several Ford diesel generations. Access and reading methods differ noticeably from the Bosch families.
Regulate boost, injection and torque limits in turbocharged petrol engines: the foundation of any responsible optimisation.
Engines & transmissions
The engine designation alone says little about the outcome. Condition, software version and transmission also matter, which is why a pre-check always comes first.
Turbocharged petrol engines across almost the entire range. The sensible scope depends on displacement, cooling, transmission and condition.
Diesel engines with conventional exhaust aftertreatment. Enquiries often concern particulate filters, EGR and recurring fault codes.
Typical fault patterns
These patterns recur. They are a starting point for diagnostics, not a remote diagnosis or a substitute for inspecting the specific vehicle.
A familiar pattern: regeneration repeatedly stops early and filter loading rises. The cause of interruption is checked, not just the filter’s condition.
May involve actuators, sensors, leaks or software. Live data distinguishes these possibilities more reliably than the fault code alone.
Before we confirm the work
Without these details, any statement about feasibility is a guess. With them, we can usually say before the appointment whether work is possible and within what scope.

FAQ
It depends on model series, engine and year of manufacture; Ford uses several suppliers in parallel. Identification is the first step and determines the reading method and feasibility.
It is possible, but worthwhile only when condition is suitable. Small turbo engines are sensitive to temperature and load profile, so the limits are deliberately conservative.
Sometimes, but often not. Forced regeneration clears the filter but does not remove the cause. Loading, differential pressure and regeneration history show whether driving pattern, a sensor or EGR is responsible.
For many model series, yes. Data from the existing unit is transferred and adapted to a replacement so the immobiliser and configuration remain compatible. Feasibility depends on the fitted control-unit family.
