Capability profile · Factory performance models

AMG, M and RS platforms

Factory performance models already use a substantial part of their thermal margin in standard form. The question shifts from “how much is possible?” to “how much remains stable through a complete session?” That is the focus of this work.

Not a customer case study; no result figures are published.

What this profile describes

  • Assess factory performance variants separately from standard models in the same series
  • Include transmission torque permissions in the same decision as engine software
  • Assess thermal behaviour from logs, not from a single run

What this project type covers

An AMG, M or RS has much more than cosmetic differences from the standard range. Its engine, cooling, transmission and torque coordination are developed as a distinct package; software from the standard model is not a technical match.

What the work involves

The engine and transmission ECUs are read and checked against each other before anything is written. Calibration then follows the temperatures and torque permissions actually measured, rather than a target number.

Where the limits lie

If a vehicle arrives with third-party software and no verified original backup, documenting the existing state comes first. Without a known starting point, neither a sound assessment nor a controlled restoration is possible.

Software scope

  • Calibrate the factory performance application
  • Adjust torque permissions in the transmission control unit
  • Assess torque distribution on all-wheel-drive models

Diagnostic checks

  • Read and compare the engine and transmission control units
  • Check for third-party software inherited from a previous owner
  • Evaluate charge-air, oil and coolant temperatures under load

Safeguards

  • Back up the original software before each write
  • Do not write until the access method for the fitted ECU is established
  • Retain component-protection limits
