Citroën: HDi, BSI and emissions diagnostics in Stuttgart.

Citroën uses the same PSA technology as Peugeot, but with its own equipment and comfort configurations. For diagnostics and coding, that means the same tool approach but a different vehicle configuration.

Work on Citroën is part of the documented service scope. The scope is still checked for each vehicle.

Service scope

What MG AutoTech does on Citroën vehicles.

Every service starts in the same order: check the vehicle details, assess the fault, establish technical feasibility, then carry out the work. ECU and TCU access, unlocking, diagnostics and software work are considered separately because they have different requirements.

Citroën

Chip tuning & Stage 1

Software optimisation based on the engine, transmission, software version and vehicle condition.

Citroën

Vehicle diagnostics

Check fault memory, live data and the surrounding systems before making any decision.

Citroën

Vehicle coding

Code equipment, comfort functions and retrofits according to the vehicle configuration.

Vehicle assessment

Standard, performance model or already modified?

These three cases can look similar from the outside but differ greatly in technical terms. The assessment determines the work involved, the scope and what is realistically worthwhile.

Standard vehicles

C3, C4 and C5 Aircross, plus Berlingo and Jumper. On vans, fault patterns often relate to conversions and additional electrical equipment.

DS range

Models originating from Citroën’s premium range, with more extensive electronics and more comfort control units. The inspection scope is correspondingly larger.

Previously modified vehicles

Retrofitted electrical equipment is a common fault source on Citroëns. The vehicle-network side is checked before assuming a software cause.

Systems

The control units that matter on Citroën.

The fitted system determines the approach, not the badge. These are the units that feature most often in Citroën enquiries.

01

Bosch EDC17 (HDi)

The main diesel control-unit family on the PSA platform.

02

Delphi and Valeo control units

Fitted across several diesel generations, with their own access and reading methods.

03

BSI and comfort control units

The central electrical-network unit plus model-specific comfort units. Equipment-dependent functions are configured through them.

Engines & transmissions

The Citroën ranges we receive the most enquiries about.

The engine designation alone says little about the outcome. Condition, software version and transmission also matter, which is why a pre-check always comes first.

Range

HDi / BlueHDi (diesel)

Diesel engines with particulate filters, some using additives and others SCR and AdBlue.

Range

PureTech (petrol)

Turbocharged three-cylinder engines with limited headroom. Assessment is deliberately conservative and based on condition.

Typical fault patterns

The issues Citroën vehicles come in with.

These patterns recur. They are a starting point for diagnostics, not a remote diagnosis or a substitute for inspecting the specific vehicle.

Fault pattern

Comfort functions fail intermittently

Often a voltage or communication issue around the BSI, less often a failed individual control unit.

Fault pattern

Recurring particulate-filter warning

Additive level, differential pressure and interrupted regenerations are assessed together before deciding on cleaning or replacement.

Before we confirm the work

The details needed for a Citroën.

Without these details, any statement about feasibility is a guess. With them, we can usually say before the appointment whether work is possible and within what scope.

  • Model, year of manufacture and version
  • Engine specification from the registration document
  • Whether additional electrics have been fitted (parking heater, towing equipment, conversion)
  • Any existing fault codes
  • For Berlingo and Jumper: body conversion and use profile
  • Vehicle identification number

FAQ

Frequently asked questions about Citroën.

Is Citroën technically identical to Peugeot?

The platform, engines and control-unit families overlap substantially. Equipment configuration and comfort functions are the main differences, and those are decisive for coding.

Several functions on my Berlingo fail at the same time.

That suggests a communication fault in the vehicle network rather than several failed parts. Retrofitted electrical equipment is a common cause and is checked first.

Do you also work on Citroën camper conversions?

Yes, but the conversion is part of the assessment. Payload, additional electrics and use profile change what is sensible; software considered without the conversion does not tell the whole story.
