Peugeot: HDi, PureTech and BSI diagnostics in Stuttgart.

Peugeot and Citroën share almost all their PSA technology, including the central BSI unit. Electrical problems therefore call for checks of the power supply and vehicle electrical network before suspecting a control unit.

Work on Peugeot is part of the documented service scope. The scope is still checked for each vehicle.

Service scope

What MG AutoTech does on Peugeot vehicles.

Every service starts in the same order: check the vehicle details, assess the fault, establish technical feasibility, then carry out the work. ECU and TCU access, unlocking, diagnostics and software work are considered separately because they have different requirements.

Peugeot

Chip tuning & Stage 1

Software optimisation based on the engine, transmission, software version and vehicle condition.

Peugeot

Vehicle diagnostics

Check fault memory, live data and the surrounding systems before making any decision.

Peugeot

Vehicle coding

Code equipment, comfort functions and retrofits according to the vehicle configuration.

Vehicle assessment

Standard, performance model or already modified?

These three cases can look similar from the outside but differ greatly in technical terms. The assessment determines the work involved, the scope and what is realistically worthwhile.

Standard vehicles

208, 308, 3008 and 5008, plus Partner and Boxer. The group’s electrical architecture shapes the working method more than the individual model.

GT and Peugeot Sport variants

Sports versions with dedicated software. The additional scope is correspondingly smaller than on the base version of the same model series.

Previously modified vehicles

Third-party work on Peugeots is often followed by communication faults between the engine ECU and the body computer. Both are therefore read together.

Systems

The control units that matter on Peugeot.

The fitted system determines the approach, not the badge. These are the units that feature most often in Peugeot enquiries.

01

Bosch EDC17 (HDi)

The platform’s most widespread diesel control-unit family, with access methods that vary by version.

02

Delphi and Valeo control units

Also fitted across several PSA diesel generations. Reading methods and scope for work differ from the Bosch families.

03

BSI (Boîtier de Servitude Intelligent — central body electronics unit)

The central electrical-network and comfort unit in PSA vehicles. Voltage and communication problems can produce symptoms that look like failures in entirely different systems.

Engines & transmissions

The Peugeot ranges we receive the most enquiries about.

The engine designation alone says little about the outcome. Condition, software version and transmission also matter, which is why a pre-check always comes first.

Range

HDi / BlueHDi (diesel)

Diesel engines throughout the range. Enquiries often concern particulate filters, the additive system, EGR and AdBlue.

Range

PureTech (petrol)

Turbocharged three-cylinder petrol engines. Headroom is limited and condition is decisive, so assessments are deliberately cautious.

Typical fault patterns

The issues Peugeot vehicles come in with.

These patterns recur. They are a starting point for diagnostics, not a remote diagnosis or a substitute for inspecting the specific vehicle.

Fault pattern

Several apparently unrelated faults at once

A typical BSI or voltage-related pattern. The battery, earth connections and electrical network are checked before suspecting control units.

Fault pattern

DPF warning on a vehicle with an additive system

Some PSA diesels use an additive-assisted particulate filter. Additive level and regeneration history are then part of the assessment.

Before we confirm the work

The details needed for a Peugeot.

Without these details, any statement about feasibility is a guess. With them, we can usually say before the appointment whether work is possible and within what scope.

  • Model, year of manufacture and trim level
  • Engine specification from the registration document
  • Transmission: manual, EAT or automatic
  • Any existing fault codes
  • For starting problems: whether central locking still responds
  • Vehicle identification number

FAQ

Frequently asked questions about Peugeot.

Why is the battery checked first for electrical faults?

The central BSI unit is sensitive to low voltage and may log faults in otherwise healthy systems. A proper voltage check often prevents replacement of a working control unit.

Can a Peugeot function be enabled afterwards?

Only if the hardware is fitted and the vehicle configuration supports it. Correctly installed hardware remains ineffective without the matching configuration; it depends on the recorded equipment, not simply on willingness to enable it.

My Peugeot diesel has an AdBlue warning. How urgent is it?

Urgent enough not to leave it unresolved. The system announces a no-start condition and enforces it when the remaining range runs out. The entire dosing and measurement chain is checked, not just the component named in the warning.
